Study Design: Review article Objectives: To introduce techniques for minimally invasive revision surgery and review previous studies.
Summary of Literature Review: The recent increases in the frequency of spine surgery have led to a rise in the incidence of spinal revision surgery. Reoperation utilizing minimally invasive techniques is frequently attempted, and in order to avoid exposure of the prior surgical site, anterior or lateral access and an endoscopic surgical method are favored.
Materials and Methods: Review of the relevant articles Results: Uniportal endoscopes and biportal endoscopes are frequently utilized in endoscopic procedures. Both surgical techniques can be employed in reoperations of the spine, particularly in discectomy and laminectomy procedures. A biportal endoscope is also utilized when fusion is performed as a reoperation following laminectomy. A tubular retractor is mostly utilized for transforaminal interbody fusion, and it is frequently used when switching to fusion in the event of recurrence following laminectomy or discectomy. A lateral approach is also often utilized, particularly when the posterior adhesions and foraminal stenosis are significant.
Conclusions: Using a conventional open procedure is the fundamental method for revision, but various minimally invasive methods have been established in recent years.
